Lisbon is an
amazing city with plenty of attractions and experiences for visitors to enjoy,
including many fantastic playgrounds! Here are our favourite playgrounds in and
around Lisbon ;-) Enjoy
Located in the Alfama
neighbourhood Largo José Saramago has not one but two and if I can be cheeky
three playgrounds! Two are climbing structure for older kids. If you only see
one, yes that's right, for the second one head towards the buildings away from
the river and you will see the second climbing structure. The second playground
on the Largo is geared towards smaller kids with a slide. There is no swings
and though our kids are swing lovers it never stops them enjoying it and asking
to come back here! This playground is a mere 8 min walking from our LD Alfama Apartment.
Jardim da
Estrela Playground - Located in the Jardim da Estrela park in the Estrela
neighborhood, this playground has plenty of climbing structures, swings, and a
large sand pit. Wear trainers, the peebles do not go with sandals or flipflaps
and while shaded, some parts heat up a lot with the sun. The opening times are
from 8am to 8pm - easily reachable by tram 24 from all our apartments,
direction Campo Orique :)
Parque Eduardo
VII Playground - This large park is located in the Avenidas Novas neighborhood
and features a great playground area with lots of equipment for children of all
ages, including a zip line, six facing swings (at a safety distance) I have not
seen anywhere else, and a climbing wall. Wear trainers, the peebles do not go
with sandals or flipflaps and while shaded, some parts heat up a lot with the
sun. The opening times are from 7 am to 10 pm. - best reached by bus form our
LD Chiado Ferragial and Corpo Santo apartment or subway from our LD Chiado
Atalaia apartment
Parque da Bela Vista
Playground - This park is located in the Olivais neighborhood and has a large
playground area with multiple slides, swings, and climbing structures, as well
as a mini-golf course and a pond. The opening times are from 7 am to 10 pm.
Quinta das
Conchas Playground - This playground is part of a larger park in the Lumiar
neighborhood and features multiple play structures, a zip line, and a sand pit.
The opening times are from 7 am to 10 pm.
Praca Dom Luis I playground is conveniently located next to the Time Out Market and our LD Chiado Ferragial and Corpo Santo apartments. It is simple, a slide, see saw and swings, however with the quiosque right next to is a fun activity for the whole family before or after dinner at the Time Out Market or surrounding restaurants.
Cascais Marechal Carmona Park Playground - This park is located in the coastal town of Cascais, just a short train ride from Lisbon, and features a large playground area with multiple play structures, swings, and climbing walls. The park also has a small farm, an art museum, and a rose garden. The opening times are from 9 am to 8 pm we absolutely love it! Take the train from Cais do Sodre train station (next to our LD Chiado Ferragial and Corpo Santo apartment and 10 min walk from our LD Apartments Chiado - Atalaia and have seafood roddizio lunch at Baia do Peixe in Cascais before burning off your lunch at the playground.
This is a shot of the toddler area in Cascais Marchal Carmona Park Playground. Behind is also a section for the bigger kids. It can also easily be reached from our LD Apartments Cascais apartment :)
Parque Florestal
de Monsanto Playground - This park is located on the outskirts of Lisbon and
has a large playground area with lots of climbing structures, slides, and
swings. The opening times are from 7 am to 9 pm. Best to go by car if you have
one.
Jardim do Torel
Playground - This park is located on a hilltop in the Santo António
neighborhood and has a small playground area with swings, a slide, and climbing
structures, as well as stunning views of Lisbon. The opening times are from 8
am to 8 pm. Take Acensor do Lavra from Avenida da Liberdade, once arrived at
the top walk to your left.
Jardim Fialho de Almeida in Principe Real has a
slide, swing and some other things to keep the kids entertained. There is also
a nice quiosque to have a drink before/after and a farmer's market every
Saturday. It is moments from our LD Principe Real Apartment.
Keeping the best to the very very end, well
our absolute favourite! Jardim das Amoreiras/Jardim Marcelino Mesquita
playground is pretty simple with a seesaw, swings and a yellow tram and slide!
Yes a yellow tram. The neat thing about it, it is in a marvelous park, quiosque
next to it, you can literally watch the kids playing inside and you can take
tram 24 from Largo Luis do Comaoes in Bairro Alto to access it. On the ride you
will pass the Alcantara viewing platform, the Principe Real playground (do not
worry kids wont see it as it is hidden behind the trees) and the best the tram
is nearly always free so you get a seat for sure and do not have to sweat!
These are just a
few of the many great playgrounds in Lisbon. Each one offers a unique
experience for children and families to enjoy while visiting the city and
surrounding areas. Please always check the opening times as they are subject to
change.
