If concerts and festivals are not enough, Lisbon also offers plenty of local events to mingle with your local holiday rental neighbors and join Portuguese traditions - most of them for free!
1) Festival da Mascara Iberica (FIMI)
From May 17-20 enjoy a showcase of handicrafts, regional products and cultural events to represent our Iberian peninsula that is formed by Spain and Portugal.
This festival is the biggest event in Iberian culture to share the richness of the two countries' cultural and artistic history.
Has been taking place since 2006
Every year this great cultural spectacle brings together the Spanish and Portuguese regions for the city of Lisboa to marvel at the richness of its cultural and artistic history, through processions, workshops, regional displays, concerts, dance and even photography. More info

2) Festas de Lisboa
Get in the real Lisbon spirit with Festas de Lisboa throughout June when Lisboa celebrates its Patron Saints, especially to honor Santo Antonio. In all historical neighborhoods (mainly Bairro Alto, Alfama, Castelo, and Mouraria) benches, tables, garlands, roasted Sardine stalls (and other food) and concerts will be set up in the narrow streets to mingle and dance with locals and celebrate our Saint Santo Antonio.
On the evening of June 12 the whole city is out celebrating at night in Alfama. Prepare for a unique local experience and be prepared to pass side by side with locals as our streets in Alfama and up to Castelo St. Jorge get extremely crowded! Another of the main events can be watched from our balconies in our Alfama apartment. It is a procession in the afternoon of June 13 in homage to our Saint, who is believed to have fostered marriages. Due to this humble couples can marry for free in the historical Se Cathedral in one large wedding ceremony called "Santo Casmenteiro" on this day since the 1950s! And if you are still looking for love give the person of your heart a Manjerico. These are newly sprouted Basil (for your new love) and crafted in form of a ball that are given as gifts throughout June.

3) Arraial Lisboa Pride
Takes place normally the last weekend in June (to be confirmed). It is a large party with guest DJs, stalls of local produce and more.

4) Big Bang Festival
In October this music festival for kids takes place in Belem, in Praca do Imperio.
5) Vodafone Mexefest
Takes place on a weekend in November on Avenida da Liberdade. Expect the best music of the most varied genres. Weekend to be confirmed.
6) Christmas Concerts in Lisbon's churches
Especially in Igreja e Convento de São Vicente de Fora, though also in various churches throughout Lisbon with a repertoire of mainly sacred music, the Christmas Concerts are a symbiosis of music and the cultural heritage of Lisboa’s churches throughout December.
7) New Year's Eve
Expect a spectacular firework display over the river, watching from Praca do Commercio. The square will also hosts concerts by several Portuguese artists.
